What is AMDA?

AMDAとは_緊急医療支援活動を行う様子AMDA is a non-governmental, non-profit organization dedicated to realizing a peaceful community through humanitarian efforts in the medical healthcare sector. Its philosophies are based on a foundation of “Sogo-fujo”, a Japanese traditional value of mutual assistance. The ultimate goal of AMDA’s activities is to achieve a “coexistence of diversity” – a state where even those who have different religions and customs can live together peacefully. AMDA provides emergency medical aid to people affected by natural as well as man-made disasters, and also implements mid- to long-term social development projects helping people to help them get back on their feet. A great priority is placed on respecting the pride and values of those we support. AMDA’s recent emergency relief activities include the flood in Peru in 2017, the earthquake in Kumamoto, Japan in 2016 and the earthquake in Nepal in 2015.

AMDA was founded in 1984 in Okayama City, Japan. With its international network of 32 chapters, AMDA has worked in more than 65 countries in partnership with various organizations including civil organizations, universities, governments, medical institutions, UN agencies and other institutions. AMDA has been in general consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council since 2006.
